Why Tenants need Contents Insurance
Here's why it's so dangerous not having contents insurance if you're renting property in Tenerife.
For €80 a year - is it really worth the risk?
In this case, the tenants had no contents insurance, the land lady had no building insurance and they had no rental contract. The tenants had caused a fire in the apartment which destroyed everything!
First of all, we need to take this opportunity to state how important it is that you only rent a property in Tenerife with a contract. (We know how desperate it is at the moment for people to find rental properties in the first place but this is a risk you must not take under any circumstances.) Demand to see the landlord's building insurance policy and make sure you are given a receipt every time you pay your rent.
As for your own contents insurance, you will only need to pay around €80 (depending on level of cover needed) for the year! This covers you for burglary, fire, public liability and even muggings on the street. If you would like a quote, feel free to email chris@tibc-sl.com or fill out our online insurance request form and you'll receive a quote direct to your inbox.

Information needed from you to take out a Contents Insurance
Please send an email with the following information to chris@tibc-sl.com
NIE number of Contents Insurance Policy Holder
Address of the property
Type of property and is it on the ground floor?
Interior Area (m2)
Exterior areas (m2)
Security measures in place (Alarm, bars on all windows, safe which is over 100kg and bolted to the floor/wall)
Value of your contents (what it would cost to replace all your belongings)
Optional Extended Cover
Are there any individual items worth over €2,000? We can insure anything over the value of €6,000 also but we will need proof of its value (certificate/receipt) and these items must be kept in the safe when not in use.
Do you have a dog which is on the list of "dangerous breeds"? If so, let us know. We can add public liability for "dangerous dogs".
Do you have a car in the garage which only has third party? We can insure the vehicle parked in the garage on a contents insurance policy.
You can also choose to extend your public liability cover. We especially suggest increasing this if 1) You have gas bottles in the house and 2) If the house is ever left empty for longer than 31 consecutive days.

Tenerife International Business Centre SL also offer Car, Pet, Life, Medical Insurance and more. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you would like a quote or any advice when renting property in Tenerife.
