We are requesting that The Government of the Canary Islands amends the Decree 113/2015 regulating holiday accommodation in the Canary Islands, as has already been promised on numerous occasions. The following data speaks for itself and shows just how important it is that this Law is reviewed as soon as possible.
More than 3.5 million tourists choose holiday accommodation without legal security a year through booking with private property owners.
The annual expenditure amounts to more than 1,500 million euros, of which one third corresponds to the income from these "illegal" holiday lets.
They represent more than 22% of all available tourism beds in the Canary Islands.
It is a vital source of income for all local economies.
It is estimated that approximately 100 million Euros a year is being lost by the Government from IGIC payments on these holiday lets.
Thousands of owners with quality holiday homes, as well as self-employed, SMEs, and entities of all types, together offer a fantastic holidaying service to visitors and this is a huge opportunity for the Government to capitalise on this existing economic activity.
We therefore unanimously request the President of the Canary Islands, Mr Fernando Clavijo Batlle, to:
Amend URGENTLY the Decree 113/2015, article 3.2, preventing holiday homes in tourist areas, tourist developments and residential mixed tourist areas.
We also request that the restrictions in rural areas be removed for all dwellings whose residential character and legal status have been recognized by municipal authorities.
