Second home owners in the Canary Islands, otherwise known as non-residents, are sometimes not informed of the Modelo 210 when they come to purchase a property here. By law, all non-resident property owners must pay this tax. The value of the tax payable is based on the rateable value (in Spanish, Valor Catastral). This is NOT the same as the IBI bill you must pay each year also (Impuestos sobre Bienes Inmuebles) which is known to us as "council rates". 

The deadline for the presentation of the Modelo 210 for the year 2015 is the 31st of December 2016.
